JOSE MURILLO

Design Philosophy

I strive to be a humane designer. This means that I want to build products that respect rather than exploit the complexities of human nature.

What excites me about design is the cascading effects it has on people and environments. For this reason, I like to approach design thoughtfully, collaboratively, and with room to respond to unanticipated consequences.

As a humane designer, I understand that I work inside a massive landscape of complex interdependencies which requires humility and a willingness to learn.

Values

Cultivate Interdependence.

I like to think of myself as a system that interacts with other systems of life. Because of this, I find it intuitive to cultivate interdependent relationships that help all thrive.

Continue Learning.

Stay curious, open, and humble. Let your beliefs be challenged. There are many perspectives to understand and always something to learn.

Think long term.

Be thoughtful about your actions and how they shape the future of you and that around you.

Accept yourself.

Bringing your authentic self to everything you do celebrates the vastness that exists within you and encourages others to do the same. It is the ultimate practice of self respect.
